Motorola DROID 2 Star Wars (R2D2) Edition

The Motorola DROID 2 is a hotly anticipated handset in the US at the moment, but for the month of September only, Verizon Wireless will also be making the Motorola DROID 2 Star Wars edition available which is made to look like R2D2 and comes with Star Wars themed content.

The R2D2 connection comes through the DROID name, which is actually a trademark of LucasFilm and is used by the US Verizon network under license. Not all phones in the Verizion DROID series are even made by Motorola, but most are.. and this Star Wars themed device seems like a good marketing ploy.

The hardware specifications are unchanged, the DROID 2 features a high-resolution 3.7" 480 x 854 pixel display, a 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and expandable memory all running on top of Android 2.2. As this is a CDMA/EV-DO device then it will only work in the US, and as the DROID is called the Milestone in the rest of the world then it is very unlikely that we will see this phone anywhere else.
